The Siege of Paris
Additional mission – The Legend of Beowulf
This time, the series takes place during the Viking invasion of England, in which you play the role of the invader Eivor. And given that the newest chapter of Assassin’s Creed is set in a period synonymous with plunder, it’s no surprise that Valhalla brings with it a much more aggressive and chaotic battle.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is unable to maintain its own open world and has no story to care for, but Eivor’s broad shoulders are enough to carry the latest Viking-inspired chapter in the veteran franchise. Other open world games better deliver a tried and tested formula, but Valhalla offers an enjoyable experience backed by smaller adventures you have along the way.
At times, Valhalla’s gameplay often harks back to the more classic Assassin’s Creed II combat, and the series reinvents a sense of humor and a raw stupidity that has been lacking since the Black Flag. The series often takes itself a little too seriously, so it’s great to see Ubisoft take a more jovial tone.
Like Edward Kenway in Black Flag, they kind of stumble over being an assassin, but the game tries to take advantage of this more interesting premise. Instead, Eivor has a largely Viking history, with bits of Assassin lore and Animus narratives that occasionally but consistently disrupt the pace.
Valhalla arrives just two years after the release of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, transporting us from the Peloponnesian War of Ancient Greece to the Ancient Viking World and challenges the player to take control of Eivor, a Viking that fought in the Nordic invasion. England. From graphics to clever world-building features and ties the game to the wider Assassin’s Creed storyline, Valhalla is an intriguing game that the player immediately immerses in.
